Pilar de la Horadada

Pilar de la Horadada is a charming town on the most southern end of Costa Blanca and is located just off the N-332 coastal road between Torrevieja and San Pedro del Pinatar, or from the AP-7 (E-15) motorway and only a 10 minutes drive from San Javier airport.

Pilar de la Horadada History

The area is full of history and goes back to ancient times having many pirate attacks in the past. It still has the ancient 15 century watch tower which was built to warn the locals of pirate attacks. They also use to use bonfires to notify the residence.

Pilar de la Horadada is now a beautiful town with pretty square and stunning gardens. There is a cinema which screens films in English with Spanish subtitles. There is also a museum with archaeological exhibitions and down from the square a 19th century church of our Lady of the Virgin of Pilar you can see its prominent bell tower.

There are lots of festivals they have a Carnival in February, San Juan Bonfires in June and Fiesta Mayor de Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar in October.

The main market is on Fridays, but there are many other nearby markets.

Fiestas and festivals in Pilar de la Horadada

Include the July 30th independence celebrations, various celebrations dedicated to the Virgen del Pilar (late September and October), the Romerio de San Isidro (May) and the Pilar Blues Festival which is held at the beach Las Higuericas in August.
